Is it beginner friendly?
Yes. The raised details make the design approachable for someone painting their first ceramic, while the larger areas leave plenty of scope for experienced painters to add shading, patterns, fine details or mixed-media decoration.Will the recipient need anything else?
Choose a complete kit and they will receive the ceramic, six paint colours, a brush and helpful instructions. They will only need a small pot of water and something to protect their work surface.No kiln or specialist equipment is required. The ceramic-only option is best for someone who already owns craft supplies.
How messy is it?
It is a straightforward tabletop activity rather than a specialist pottery setup. We recommend covering the surface, wearing an apron or older clothes and keeping water and kitchen paper nearby. As with most craft paints, spills may stain some fabrics or surfaces.Approximate measurements:

The llama is hand-cast in earthenware ceramic bisque and kiln-fired at over 1,000°C, creating a high-quality unpainted surface ready for decoration.
Its characterful standing design includes upright ears, a friendly face, long neck and softly sculpted fleece. The smoother areas leave plenty of room for markings and patterns, while the raised fleece can be highlighted using contrasting colours or techniques such as dry brushing.
Its compact size makes the finished llama suitable for displaying on a shelf, bookcase, desk, dressing table or bedside table, either alone or as part of a colourful, animal or travel-inspired collection.
Suitable lightweight and flexible bracelets may also be carefully slipped over the llama’s head and displayed around its neck. Make sure each bracelet is wide enough to pass over the ears without being stretched or forced. Do not use heavy jewellery or rigid bangles, as these could damage or unbalance the ceramic figure.
As each ceramic figure is hand-cast, very small variations may naturally occur.
This product includes one unpainted llama figure. Bracelets and other display accessories are not included, and any painted examples shown in the photographs are for creative inspiration.
Create a natural-looking llama using warm creams, browns, greys or black, perhaps layering several shades over its softly textured fleece.
Alternatively, choose a bright and imaginative colour scheme of your own. Add colourful markings, flowers, spots or stripes, or paint a decorative patterned blanket across its back. Its long neck and sculpted fleece provide plenty of opportunities to experiment with contrasting colours and different painting techniques.
The llama can be decorated using the paints supplied with a complete kit or your own acrylic or poster paints. The six kit colours can be mixed together to create additional shades.
You can also experiment with suitable craft materials such as decoupage, glitter, glue or foam clay. Simply decorate your figure and allow it to air-dry—there is no need to return it for kiln firing.
If you have access to your own kiln, the bisque ceramic is also suitable for ceramic glazes and can be fired to cone 06. This is entirely optional and is not required when using ordinary craft paints.

Your ceramic will be carefully prepared and packed at my Warwickshire studio.
Your order is packed in recyclable or reusable materials wherever possible, including a sturdy cardboard box & protective potato starch based packaging. We keep unnecessary plastic to a minimum while making sure your ceramic is properly protected on its journey.
The kit contents and packaging have been chosen so that every element can be reused, recycled or both. Please reuse your packaging where possible and check your local recycling guidance before disposal.
