Is it beginner friendly?
Yes. The raised details make the design approachable for someone painting their first ceramic, while the larger areas leave plenty of scope for experienced painters to add shading, patterns, fine details or mixed-media decoration.

Will the recipient need anything else?
Choose a complete kit and they will receive the ceramic, six paint colours, a brush and helpful instructions. They will only need a small pot of water and something to protect their work surface.

No kiln or specialist equipment is required. The ceramic-only option is best for someone who already owns craft supplies.

How messy is it?
It is a straightforward tabletop activity rather than a specialist pottery setup. We recommend covering the surface, wearing an apron or older clothes and keeping water and kitchen paper nearby. As with most craft paints, spills may stain some fabrics or surfaces.

The sloth is hand-cast in earthenware ceramic bisque and kiln-fired at over 1,000°C, creating a high-quality unpainted surface ready for decoration.

Its characterful design features a smiling sloth wrapped around an upright branch with sculpted leaves. The raised facial, fur, branch and foliage details can be picked out in different colours, while the smoother areas provide room for blended shades and decorative patterns.

Its compact size makes the finished sloth suitable for displaying on a shelf, bookcase, desk or bedside table, either alone or as part of an animal, jungle, rainforest or wildlife-inspired collection.

As each ceramic figure is hand-cast, very small variations may naturally occur.

This product includes one unpainted sloth on a branch figure. Any painted examples shown in the photographs are for creative inspiration.
Create a natural-looking sloth using soft browns, greys and creams, perhaps adding darker markings around its eyes and face. Paint the branch in warm woody shades with fresh green leaves to complete its rainforest-inspired look.

Alternatively, choose a bright and imaginative colour scheme of your own. Add spots, stripes, flowers or tiny patterns, create a rainbow sloth or select colours that complement your room. The raised details provide plenty of opportunities to experiment with contrasting shades and different painting techniques.

The sloth can be decorated using the paints supplied with a complete kit or your own acrylic or poster paints. The six kit colours can be mixed together to create additional shades.

You can also experiment with suitable craft materials such as decoupage, glitter, glue or foam clay. Simply decorate your figure and allow it to air-dry—there is no need to return it for kiln firing.

If you have access to your own kiln, the bisque ceramic is also suitable for ceramic glazes and can be fired to cone 06. This is entirely optional and is not required when using ordinary craft paints.

Your order is packed in recyclable or reusable materials wherever possible, including a sturdy cardboard box & protective potato starch based packaging. We keep unnecessary plastic to a minimum while making sure your ceramic is properly protected on its journey.

The kit contents and packaging have been chosen so that every element can be reused, recycled or both. Please reuse your packaging where possible and check your local recycling guidance before disposal.
