Sculpted feathers and natural bark details provide plenty of areas for contrasting colours and different painting techniques.

Is it beginner friendly?
Yes. The raised details make the design approachable for someone painting their first ceramic, while the larger areas leave plenty of scope for experienced painters to add shading, patterns, fine details or mixed-media decoration.

Will the recipient need anything else?
Choose a complete kit and they will receive the ceramic, six paint colours, a brush and helpful instructions. They will only need a small pot of water and something to protect their work surface.

No kiln or specialist equipment is required. The ceramic-only option is best for someone who already owns craft supplies.

How messy is it?
It is a straightforward tabletop activity rather than a specialist pottery setup. We recommend covering the surface, wearing an apron or older clothes and keeping water and kitchen paper nearby. As with most craft paints, spills may stain some fabrics or surfaces.

The robin tealight holder is hand-cast in earthenware ceramic bisque and kiln-fired at over 1,000°C, creating a high-quality unpainted surface ready for decoration.

Its characterful design features a friendly garden robin perched on a log with sculpted feather and bark details. A recessed space next to the robin is designed to hold a small, cool-running, battery-operated LED tealight.

Its compact size makes the finished robin suitable for displaying on a shelf, bookcase, mantelpiece or windowsill. It can be enjoyed throughout the year or included in an autumnal, winter, Christmas or wildlife-inspired display.

As each ceramic tealight holder is hand-cast, very small variations may naturally occur.

This product includes one unpainted robin tealight holder. The LED tealight and other display accessories are not included, and any painted examples shown in the photographs are for creative inspiration.
Create a familiar robin using an orange-red breast, natural brown feathers and softly contrasting shades around its face and tummy. Paint the log in warm woody colours and add mossy green details for a woodland-inspired finish.

Alternatively, create a snowy winter scene or choose a bright and imaginative colour scheme of your own. Add leaves, flowers, spots, patterns or tiny seasonal details to give your robin its own character.

The tealight holder can be decorated using the paints supplied with a complete kit or your own acrylic or poster paints. The six kit colours can be mixed together to create additional shades.

You can also experiment with suitable craft materials such as decoupage, glitter, glue or foam clay. Simply decorate your figure and allow it to air-dry—there is no need to return it for kiln firing.

If you have access to your own kiln, the bisque ceramic is also suitable for ceramic glazes and can be fired to cone 06. This is entirely optional and is not required when using ordinary craft paints.

Lighting your robin:

Once your decorated robin is completely dry, place a suitably sized battery-operated LED tealight in the recessed space on the log.

Only use a cool-running, battery-operated LED tealight

Never use a lit wax tealight, candle or any other naked flame

Do not use a light source that becomes hot

Make sure the LED tealight fits securely inside the recessed space

The LED tealight is not included
